現在是大學生的搵工時間，身邊有很多不是account major的朋友，希望做會計師，考取會計師專業資格，現在我就介紹一下現時進入HKICPA 的8個方法：
1. HKIAAT + PBE + QP
2. HKICPA recognized accounting degree(要有修讀HK law & tax) + QP
3. Recognized degree (任何major 都okay) + ACCA + 1 workshop + 1 FPE
4. Australian accounting degree + CPAA + HKICPA AT- Law + HKICPA AT-Tax
5. CICPA recognized degree + CICPA + QP(2 modules & 2 workshops) + FPE
6. 當地CA會認可accounting degree + 在英國、澳洲、紐西蘭、加拿大、非洲的南非或辛巴威當地應考 CA 會計師考試 + HKICPA AT- Law + HKICPA AT-Tax
7. 在英國應考 UKIAAT + ICAEW exam
8. ICAEW認可accounting degree + 在英國應考 ICAEW exam
附註：
- QP包括 4 modules 及 4 workshops ，最後要考一個Final Exam (FPE)
大家可以留意一下，過去香港大學畢業生多會考ACCA，後來因為某些原因，HKICPA自立門戶，成立了QP。現時，縱使學生於大學修讀了相關學科，便可exempt ACCA某些papers（account major更可於 13 份papers exempt 8 9 份），不過，因為QP的資格現在於香港的認受最高，因而最受香港大學畢業生歡迎。

Your blog is great enough!! I have been here for ages.
Now I want some info. about ACCA & HKICPA. When I finish my degree in UK and go back to Hong Kong. What accounting exam should I take if I want the certificate?? This question has been eating me for a long time.
Could you give me some suggestions?

Thanks for your vist and I hope youlikethis blog.
Before taking any exam, I think you should first consider wher wil you develop your career, in case in UK, you may need to consider relevant qualifcication in UK. If it is the case, I think you will be more familiar than you, and welcome you to share with us.
In case, you would like to develop in HK. I think you woul better choose QP since it is introduced by HKICPA and increase popularity in HK and widely recognized in the world.
But you need bear in mind that, since you are taking a HK exam, and need to meet the requirment before taking the exam. You may need to take some courses on HK tax and HK law beforehead. This may eat you some time if you want to join the QP.
This only brief inoformation on the current situation in HK and the QP. The decision is up to you to make after considering your conern.

I have done some research and gained advice from my fd who is now working in one of the big 4 in HK.
He suggested me do the ACCA when I have been back to HK as ACCA is purely for ppl who want to be an accountant. And HKICPA is for the one who want to be a partner in long term. Is that right?
He is doing HKICPA and he told me there are 16 workshops plus 5 exams for him to go, which is a difference from your description in article. How come he has to do much?
In my concept so far, ACCA is more straight forward (can be meant as easier) than HKICPA; but it will be a trouble if my future boss ask me for a cert. from HKICPA. I cannot get any exemption anymore.

I am sorry that I make you feel a little bit confused. What I mean there are 4 modules in QP, including Financial Accounting, Auditing, Financial management and taxation. Each module contains 4 workshops plus one written exam. After passing 4 modules, you need to take one more written exam, the Final Paper Exam. Therefore, there are in total 16 workshops and 5 papers, which are same as what your friend said.
As what your friend said, if you want to be an accountant, ACCA and even LCCI are already enough. However, I do not think that HKICPA is for the one who want to be a partner in long term, though it is a must to obtain a HKICPA memebership if you want to be a partner. But beoming a partner, you need a CPA(Pracrising) but not a QP cert. And frankly speaking, I do think that most of the QP canditates are not thinking of being a partner in the future.
Indeed, most of the accountants or IAs take QP, instead of ACCA as QP is based on HK Accounting standard and Auditing Standard, which are the Standards while ACCA is not. When you are doing your accounting works, you can know to comply with the HKAS and HKSA. However, it’s true that HKAS and HKSA are more or less the same as the the International one. And it is faster to get the qualification as you can pass all the exam in 1 year, in case you can pass all the exam in one attempt.
I undestand that ACCA is a easier exam (as i also have taken a look on the ACCA past paper). However, as you do not have any exemption from your words, you need to pass 13 papers and 1 workshops plus on FPE. It may take you a long time. So, you may need to balance these two factors. You do not need to afraid that youur future may require you to get a QP cert, as from what I saw in the adv., most the employers need experience and an accounting degree or LCCI for accounting works. It’s true that if you want to promote, it’s better to have a HKICPA qualiiation, but as what i said in the passage that ACCA can also a mean to become a CPA.
These information maybe a little bit outdated as the passage are written already a year ago. You are recommended to find more information on the current situation, esp. the ACCA one.

Hi! May I ask a question about AICPA (US CPA)? Is AICPA be eligible for qualifying as a member of HKICPA? Would it be worth to obtain AICPA? Thanks!

I also have the same question too. I have my undergrad and grad accounting degrees in US. I am working in a firm and studying the CPA right now. Recently, I decide to go back Hong Kong in two years. Should I obtain the AICPA in US ?? Do I have to take any exam in HK, if I become AICPA in US??
